Rascal here! Here is more of my story. . . .
After a couple days I came out of the basement because I was very hungry. I looked in the kitchen for something to eat and found peanut butter crackers. I spit them out because I didn’t like them. Then I found a package of sunflower seeds. They were delicious!
I was sitting on the counter minding my own business when I heard a flutter of wings and “Squawk!” A bird flew at me and beat me with its wings. I jumped off the counter and ran but it flew at me again and pecked me on my bottom! I yelled, “Stop, that hurts!”
The bird ruffled its feathers and said, “Get out. This is my kitchen.”
“I’m sorry. I didn’t know,” I said. “I’m Rascal. What is your name?”
“I’m Newton. Newty-Bird to my friends. I’m a mocking bird.” She limped toward me and ruffled her feathers again.
“What’s wrong with your leg?” I asked.
“I broke my leg when I was a baby and Pam took me in and raised me. She feeds me and takes care of me. And she brings my favorites, grapes and pears!”
Then I heard a noise. Clop-clop, clop-clop. Someone was coming! I ran into the pantry to hide, and peaked under the door. It was a lady, Pam. “Newty-Bird, how did you get loose?” Pam asked. “Go back in your cage.”
Pam opened the pantry door and I ran out, so she screamed. I ram around the corner and hid under a sofa. My heart pounded, I was so scared!
Someone called, “Pam, what’s wrong? Are you okay?”
“Yes,” Pam replied, “The chipmunk is still in the house. He just ran out of the pantry, the little rascal!”
Wow! Pam knew my name and I knew hers. It was the beginning of our friendship.
